INTRODUCTION TO GARMENT TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Garment Technology at Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, has been a pioneer in technical education since its establishment in 1996. Initiated under the World Bank scheme, the department was created to address the growing demands of the garment industry in Jammu & Kashmir and across the country. Over the years, it has achieved remarkable growth and emerged as a center of excellence in garment education and training.

Our department offers a three-year diploma program in Garment Technology, designed to equip students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and creative expertise required to excel in the dynamic fashion and apparel industry. From understanding fabric science and garment construction to mastering the latest trends in fashion design and production, our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of the modern garment industry.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure

The department is equipped with advanced facilities to provide students with hands-on training and real-world experience. Our infrastructure includes:

  • well-equipped laboratory with the latest industrial sewing machines, finishing machines, and embroidery machines.
  • Garment CAD software for designing and pattern-making.
  • Knitting machines (plain, rib, and interlock) for fabric production.
  • Dummies and mannequins for garment fitting and display.

These facilities ensure that students gain practical exposure and develop the skills necessary to meet industry standards.
